Why We Are Building on Base

2 min read

Ethereum L3s are the new frontier for application-specific chains. Here is why Base is the right foundation for Unity Eco.

When we started designing Unity Eco, the question of which chain to build on came down to one thing: who do we want our users to be?

Most DeFi users today are crypto-native. They know how to bridge assets, manage gas, and navigate protocol UIs designed for people who have been in the space for years. That is a small market.

We want to serve everyone else. The person with savings in a checking account earning 0.01% APY. The small business owner who gets paid in dollars and spends in dollars. The developer who wants to build a yield-bearing wallet without becoming a DeFi expert.

Base is the on-ramp for that audience. Coinbase has 110 million verified users. Many of them already hold USDC. Base gives us direct access to that user base through a chain that Coinbase actively promotes and supports.

Building our own L3 on top of Base takes this further. We get to design the fee structure, the sequencing policy, and the upgrade path. When we are ready to launch USDu at scale, we are not competing for block space with every other application on Base. We have our own lane.

The stack: Ethereum L1 for settlement, Base L2 for bridging and liquidity, Unity L3 for application logic. Each layer does what it is best at. The result is a chain that is as secure as Ethereum and as fast as a centralized database.
